Sir:-

In further reference to your letter "865/10" of

the 7th January last we beg to inform you that 2250

cases of the Canned Salmon in question having arrived

in Havre on the 18th January per the steamer Menelaus

and the certificate of Canadian origin having been

submitted to the Customs Authorities in Havre, the

benefit of the minimum tariff was refused to the goods

but the Director in Havre not having final authority

in the matter the question was referred to the Chief

of the Administration in Paris, who, we regret to say,

also declined to admit the goods at the low rate of

duty.

In order to expedite matters as much as possible

we enclose herewith a copy of our letter to you of the

7th January and also a copy of the letter which we

wrote
